Entire Town Celebrates Copake Park on Aug. 5th
To mark the 35th Anniversary of the Copake Memorial Park, the Copake Parks and Recreation Commission is planning an all-day, town-wide celebration to be held on Saturday, August 5. Businesses and organizations throughout the Town are participating. The members of the Park Commission, who have been working on this event since the winter, are hoping for a large turnout.
The festivities will begin at 8:00am at the Copake Fire Department with a “Trash and Treasure” and a car wash. From 10:00am until noon FM93.5 will be broadcasting and playing “oldies” in the hamlet. A car show will take place from 10:00am until 2:00pm in the old Key Bank parking lot and behind Dad’s Diner.
The Copake Grange has announced that there will be live music and an art show at the Grange from noon until 4:00pm. The Copake Revitalization Task Force helped to facilitate the event, which is being organized by Slink Moss.
Merchants in the hamlet will be offering special promotions to mark the celebration. In honor of the 35th Anniversary of the Park, Catamount is offering all Copake residents a 3-hour Adventure Park pass worth $53 for $35 all day on August 5.
Festivities in the Park kick off at 1:00pm. There will be lots of free activities for kids: a bounce house, water slide, magic show, balloon tying, face painting and horseback rides. “The Oldies Show,” a popular nine-piece band from Albany, will play from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and again from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Christina Dellea will play from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.
All the food at the Park will be sold at “retro” (1984) prices. There will be games for kids which cost $1, in which every contestant will win. There will be a “scavenger hunt” featuring local businesses, with a prize of a local “goodie” bag. That winner will be drawn at 9:00pm, at which point the winners of the raffle will also be announced. (Raffle tickets are available for sale from any Park Commission member and also at the Town Hall.)
As a grand finale, the day will conclude with a fireworks show at 9:00pm.
The sponsors of the day include many Copake businesses: The Magic Show is sponsored by Peck and Peck; Balloon Tying by the Copake Veterinary Hospital; Bounce House by Jim’s Auto Body; Horse Rides by Copake Lake Realty; Face Painting by Karma Carpentry; Christina Dellea by Sunset/Sunrise; Fireworks by Waubeeka Family Campground and the Town of Copake and The Oldies Show by Waubeeka Family Campground, Roe Jan Auto, and Copake Wine Works
