The 2018 Roeliff Jansen Community Library Gala, “A Party in the Park,”will be held on Saturday, June 9 from 5:00 to 7:30pm at Roeliff Jansen Park, across Route 22 from the library.

A highlight of the evening will be a tribute to Carol Briggs. As library director for 46 years, Carol Briggs was the face of the library, guiding and inspiring tens of thousands of patrons. She led the way as the library moved from date cards to barcodes, card catalogues to computers, from being all about books to being a community center. Carol is known for her quiet warmth and sense of humor, for the books she recommended, and the hundreds of volunteers she trained and motivated.

The Gala raises a substantial portion of the library’s annual operating budget. This year’s attendees will enjoy food and wine from over 25 local restaurants, caterers and food purveyors, as well as tastings of locally made spirits, while helping to ensure that the library can continue to provide materials and services to the Roe Jan community.

Popular Gala fundraising traditions returning this year include an “Incredible Edibles” raffle basket valued at $1,000 featuring an Instant Pot, a silent auction of over 50 auction items and experiences, and a live auction with guest auctioneer Luis Caropreso. Among the live auction items are lunch with the NY Times theater critic Ben Brantley, house seats with a backstage tour to Disney’s “Lion King,” a Tesla Motors driving experience coupled with a kid-sized Tesla Motors car, and a catered dinner with wine pairings. Music will be provided by Kris Jensen’s Swinging All-Stars featuring American Songbook selections.

Information on live and silent auction items will be available at the library, on the library’s website and on the library’s Facebook page over the next few weeks. Raffle tickets are available at the library and the raffle basket will be on view during the two weeks leading up to the Gala. There will be an opportunity for absentee bidding on auction items via the website and at the library.

Gala tickets may be purchased for $100 online at, or by check or cash at the library. Those who wish to honor Carol Briggs can make a donation and have a message featured in the on-screen tribute at the gala. Details are available at the library and on the web- site.

Roeliff Jansen Community Library Business Partners Herrington Fuels, Herrington’s and Bank of Greene County are sponsors of the 2018 “Party in the Park.”
