Status of Broadband Upgrades in Copake

Consolidated Communications (formerly Fairpoint) – Engineering crews have been working in Copake to map out “fiber installation to the home.” Construction of their infrastructure on track to meet the New York State mandated December 2018 deadline. However, it may be several months before the upgraded service is “turned on” and available to residential customers.
Spectrum/Charter – the cable provider continues to be much less forthcoming than Consolidated, reporting only that it will soon announce a launch date of internet, phone and enhanced video services. Note: the PSC approved a merger between Charter Communications, Inc. and Time Warner Cable in January 2016 which required Charter to extend its network to an additional 145,000 homes and businesses across the State by 2020. Charter, now doing business as Spectrum, has launched the web portal www.bldlkup.com to provide more information related to the required build. Your home might be included in this expanded area even if you are not currently served by Spectrum.

The Copake Broadband Committee will continue to seek updates from both service providers and to advocate for the town as needed.
