This year, the Roeliff Jansen Community Library is hosting not one, but three, holiday events for children and their families.

Children are invited to a marionette performance of Charles Dickens’s “A Christmas Carol” – performed by the Puppet People – on Friday, December 7, 6:30pm – 8:00pm. The Puppet People is a New York City based professional touring company which uses many different styles of puppets. Space is limited. Please call or visit the library to sign up.

On the following day, families can decorate gingerbread houses that will be displayed at the library throughout most of December. The decorating party will be held on Saturday, December 8, 3:00-5:00pm. The library will provide all materials, but space is limited, so please call or visit the library soon to sign up.

All are welcome to “A Visit with Santa” on Sunday, December 16, 1:00-3:00pm.  Santa will be making a special visit to the Roe Jan Library, which will be transformed into a winter wonderland for the occasion. Children can stop by for cookies and hot chocolate and have their photo taken with Santa. Each child will receive a free book. (The library will be closed to patrons that day.)  No advance sign up required.

“We’re excited about bringing Charles Dickens’s classic holiday story to a new audience, and to delighting all children with a visit with Santa,” said Ann Braybrooks, the library’s Children’s/Youth Services Associate. “We’re also looking forward to displaying gingerbread houses decorated by children in the community.”
