Public Notice Copake Fire District

NOTICE OF SPECIAL REFERENDUM AT THE SPECIAL ELECTION
COPAKE FIRE DISTRICT, IN THE TOWN OF COPAKE,
COLUMBIA COUNTY, NEW YORK JUNE 13, 2023

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to the resolution duly adopted by the Board of Fire Commissioners of Copake Fire District, in the Town of Copake, Columbia County, New York, on April 24, 2023, a Special Referendum at the Special Election of the qualified voters of said Fire District will be held at the Fire House located at 390 County Route 7A in the Town of Copake, Columbia County, New York, in said Fire District, on June 13, 2023, at 6:00 o’clock P.M. (Prevailing Time) and the polls to remain open until 9:00 o’clock P.M. (Prevailing Time) or as much longer as may be necessary to enable the voters then present to cast their votes to vote upon the following Proposition:

PROPOSITION NO. 1

SHALL the bond resolution of Copake Fire District, in the Town of Copake, Columbia County, New York entitled: “BOND RESOLUTION DATED APRIL 24, 2023. A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING (1) THE UNDERTAKING OF A CAPITAL PROJECT CONSISTING OF THE ACQUISITION OF A FIRE TRUCK, IN AN AGGREGATE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $1,100,000; (2) THE FINANCING OF THE PROJECT BY THE ISSUANCE OF SERIAL BONDS IN AN AGGREGATE PRINCIPAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $900,000 OF COPAKE FIRE DISTRICT IN THE TOWN OF COPAKE, COLUMBIA COUNTY, NEW YORK, PURSUANT TO THE LOCAL FINANCE LAW TO FINANCE SAID PURPOSE; (3) THE WITHDRAWAL OF AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $200,000 FROM THE FIRE DISTRICT’S EQUIPMENT RESERVE FUND OR THE RECEIPT OF A GRANT TO PAY A PORTION OF THE COSTS OF SUCH PROJECT, AND (4) THE DELEGATION OF THE POWER TO ISSUE BOND ANTICIPATION NOTES IN ANTICIPATION OF THE SALE OF SUCH BONDS TO THE TREASURER OF THE FIRE DISTRICT,” be approved?

Such Proposition shall appear on the ballot labels at said Special Referendum at the Special Election in substantially the following form:

The voting will be conducted by paper ballots as provided by law and the polls will remain open from 6:00 o’clock P.M. (Prevailing Time) to 9:00 o’clock P.M. (Prevailing Time) and as much longer as may be necessary to enable the voters then present to cast their ballots.

NOTICE IS HEREBY FURTHER GIVEN that every elector of the Town who shall have resided in the Fire District for the period of 30 days prior to such Special Referendum at the Special Election who was registered with the board of elections on or before the twenty-third day prior to such Special Referendum at the Special Election shall be eligible to vote.

NOTICE IS HEREBY FURTHER GIVEN that the Fire District has determined that the acquisition of a fire apparatus is a Type II action that will not have a significant effect on the environment, and, therefore, no other determination or procedure under the State Environmental Quality Review Act (“SEQR”) is required.

NOTE: As at all public Fire Commissioner’s meetings, reasonable accommodations and access are available.
